Havin' a great time at Lake Gregory beach.
Havin’ a great time at Lake Gregory beach.

Every fisherman known to mankind has the opportunity of a lifetime if they show up and participate in the largest fishing derby in the history of Lake Gregory. (Of course, I’m not sure how many fishing derby’s that is but this is a “biggie!”)

Saturday, September 27 some lucky fisherman (or fisherwoman) may win $50,000…………..yes, you read that correctly……………..$50,000. So if you’re a “fisherperson” race out to the garage or storage shed and fish that fishin’ pole and tackle out from under all the stuff that’s piled on top of it and show up at Lake Gregory this Saturday.

Even if you don’t win the “grand prize” 10 other tagged fish that are happily swimming around the lake will be worth $250 (don’t tell them, though, it’s a secret! If they know they’re so valuable they’ll make themselves harder to catch! )

Tickets for this big fishing derby are $20 each and according to the Lake Gregory Recreation Company, space is limited so you should make your online reservations while you still can. To register or for more information, log onto:

Who knows, you, yes you, could go home with a fish dinner and $50,000. That would certainly help pay for more fishing line and tackle or how about paying off the mortgage on the house?!

The check-in for this fun event begins at 6 a.m. at the North Shore Boat House. If you’re 18 years or older you can sign up but if you’re younger than 18 you can “sleep in” on Saturday because you’re not eligible to participate. Also, all participants must have a valid California fishing license so don’t leave it at home.

Have fun and good luck and that’s no fish tale!
