Don’t forget that the full closure of the highway on State Route 18 from Snow Valley to the Big Bear Dam will take place October 6 through October 31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays only. The Friday and weekends of each of these weeks Hwy. 18 will be open to through traffic.
Caltrans will be removing slide material left from previous storms and other weather related events. Drivers who require an alternate route should exit at SR 38 from Mentone and SR 18 from Lucerne Valley if they want to get to Big Bear Lake.
If drivers forget and come up Hwy. 330 and then think they will get across the “Arctic Circle” during the days the road is closed past Snow Valley they will have to turn around and go back down the hill and then back up Hwy. 38 so people need to pay attention to the dates for these closures. Residents with part-time homes or who have motel or hotel reservations should be aware of the upcoming closures so they can get to Big Bear Lake by using Hwy. 28 or Hwy. 18 depending on the direction they’re going.
