9th Annual Winter Coat Collection Kicks Off This Week

children in winter, vintageIt’s that time of year again……..time when Hearts and Lives begins their annual winter coat collection and distribution kicks off. This will be the ninth year for this wonderful community outreach when residents donate new or clean “gently used” coats, hats, scarves, boots and gloves which are then distributed to local adults and children in need. Last year alone over 1,500 pieces of warm winter clothing were distributed to local families or individual in “our” mountain communities.

Currently, drop-off locations are located at Lake Arrowhead Presbyterian Church at 351 Hwy. 173, California Bank and Trust in Lake Arrowhead Village, Mountains Community Hospital, Lake Arrowhead Country Club, Union Bank in Blue Jay, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Crest Park and Mountain Auto Service in Twin Peaks. More locations will be added.

The initial distribution will be October 18 with additional distribution events to be scheduled.

It’s time to get out your winter clothing and “scale down” and when you “scale down” please donate your warm clothes, etc. in good condition to this wonderful community effort. Helping our neighbors, even though we may not know who gets out donations, should warm your heart and soul this coming holiday and winter season. We all need help sometimes and this program is not only in the spirit of giving but the items being given will truly help the lives of those who receive them. We don’t often think of warm gloves, hats or jackets being “gifts” but they are to those who don’t have them because through them, they receive the gift of warmth and the knowledge that people care.
