Tragic Hwy. 18 Accident Claims Two Local Lives

lotus_flowerA horrific auto accident on Hwy. 18 claimed the life of two mountain residents yesterday, Monday, on State Hwy. 18, north of Upper Waterman Canyon road. The accident occurred at approximately 10 a.m.

Anna Sharon Trucks-Fivgas, a 23-year-old from Rim Forest was driving her 2001 Honda CVR north on Hwy. 18 while Walter Kovacs, a 76-year-old male from Lake Arrowhead Was driving his 2002 Suburu Forester south on the highway. A head-on collision occurred north of Upper Waterman Canyon Road. Both drivers were dead at the scene due to the fatal injuries they sustained in the accident. A two-year-old child who was a passenger in the 2001 black Honda CRV was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

State Route 18 was closed for approximately five hours  at Route 138 and Upper Waterman Canyon Road while the accident investigation of the accident and cleanup occurred.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and the California Highway Patrol Arrowhead Area would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time. The telephone number for the Hwy. 18 CHP office  in Running Springs is (909) 867-2791.

What a tragedy for everyone involved and for the two-year-old who lost her mother.
