The Last Reminder About the Hwy. 18 Closure Between Big Bear and Snow Valley

Don’t forget that there will be a “full closure” of Hwy. 18 between Snow Valley Mountain Resort and the Big Bear Dam from  Monday, October 6  to Thursday, October 30. The hours for the closures will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Fridays the highway will be open to traffic.

Alternate routes are available on SR 38 from Mentone and SR 18 from Lucerne to Big Bear Lake. A paving/guardrail project is in process on Hwy. 38 so motorists using that route can expect flagging and minor delays while using the detour during the daytime hours.

The area where the work will be done is traditionally known as the “Arctic Circle” and during winter months the storms loosen rocks and boulders that can easily drop down onto the highway, causing extremely dangerous conditions for drivers. This long repair project will remove loose rocks and boulders which hopefully can help keep drivers safe during the upcoming winter months.
