Congratulations to the community of Lake Arrowhead for being selected as a participant in the Host Town Program for the Special Olympics in 2015. The local mountain area is one of only 100 communities that were selected for this program.
The Host Town program is a special three-day event that take place prior to the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics World Games.
As a host town, delegations of athletes from around the world will be welcomed and celebrated. The schedule of events will include getting to know community members, taking part in cultural activities that are unique to each selected area and practicing as well as resting up for the games.
The Special Olympics athletes will feel truly celebrated and the Host Town members will make friends for life. How exciting for the participants as well as the community of Lake Arrowhead.
Ginny Durand, the chairperson of the Lake Arrowhead Communities Chamber of Commerce, is thrilled with the fact that Lake Arrowhead will be a part of this great endeavor. A special “launch” event will be held in Lake Arrowhead that features June Lockhart who will serve as master of ceremonies of the October 15 kick-off.The fabulous and always-wonderful Mountain Fifes and Drums will also participate. The “kick off” will begin at 4 p.m. at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa.
Come join the fun and get in the spirit of the Special Olympics Games where 7,000 athletes from around the world are expected to be in Los Angeles between July 21-24. The Host Program acquaints athletes with communities that are in and around the competition site and it gives the participants a glance at “home life” in other communities besides gigantic Los Angeles. As part of the program the athletes will get to know about local communities, events, cultural activities and they’ll also have time to practice and relax before participating in the games.
What a fabulous idea!
