Caltrans Employee Struck by Driver on State Highway 38 Near Big Bear Dam

Caltrans logoThe California Highway patrol, Arrowhead Area office, invested an incident on Oct. 9 that involved injuries to two Caltrans employees. The incident occurred near the intersection of State Route 38 and State Route 18 near the Big Bear Dam.

Caltrans established a “hard closure” at the location due to downed power lines when the driver of a 2001 Subaru Outback deliberately drove into the closure and struck two Caltrans employees. Both employees received minor injuries.

The CHP conducted extensive follow-up and subsequently located the 20=year-old female driver and the involved Subaru at a residence in Big Bear Lake.

The CHP has forwarded the investigation to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office to determine whether or not any charges will be filed.

The CHP reminds all drivers that it only takes a split second of inattention to destroy the lives of many people who work to keep the highways safe and in good condition. Give the pubic and those who do business along the side of California’s roads a safer place to work.

Slow down for the Cone Zone!
