If you’re heading into or out of the Riverside area on the 91 freeway this weekend this is reminder that there are ramp and lane closures this weekend for 56 hours in both directions so it will be a mess. If you must go through the area give yourself a lot of extra time. The construction will begin on Friday, November 7 at 9 pm. and will continue to Monday, Nov. 10 at 5 a.m.
Caltrans and SEMA Construction are constructing the new Pachappa Railroad Overcrossing and pile driving is necessary to erect the support beams in the median of SR 91. the noise from the pile driving is disruptive to nearby residents and businesses, therefore Caltrans has worked closely with City of Riverside officials to expedite the work. A 56-hour weekend lane and ramp closure period begins today at 9 a.m. and continues to Monday, November 10 at 5 a.m. I just saw Caltrans Public Affairs Officer Teri Kasinga being interviewed on television so if you can avoid the closure or stay home if necessary it might be beneficial because the project area and the subsequent alternate routes will undoubtedly be a mess.
SR 91 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Central Avenue and 14th Street in downtown Riverside throughout the weekend. Westbound SR 91 will experience “traffic breaks” approximately every six minutes to allow for the piles to be safely reloaded. The Northbound 215 connector to the Westbound 91 will be closed the entire weekend.
The Eastbound 60 connector to the Westbound 91 will be closed all weekend, however, the connector will be open on Sunday, Nov. 10 between 5 and 10 a .m. to accommodate the Mission Inn Run.Motorists should be aware that the city streets will also have closures for the run which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 7 a.m. to noon.
The 10th Street on ramp to the Westbound 91 will be closed all weekend.
The 14th Street /Kane Street onramp to the westbound 91 will remain open but will close intermittently every 60 minutes to reload the piles.
Detours are available on State Route 60,and I-15 to avoid SR 91. Caltrans warns motorists to plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid the downtown Riverside area if at all possible otherwise drivers may find themselves waiting for over two hours.
