I read this short “essay” at today’s Memorial Day ceremony in Running Springs. It is amazing!

What is a veteran? A veteran, whether active duty, discharged, retired or reserve is someone who, at some point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America for an amount up to, and including, his or her life. That is honor, and there are far too many people in the country today who no longer understand that!2014 Veterans Day 010

For those of us who honor all of you who have served, whether volunteers or those who were drafted, we thank you and are grateful to all of you for your dedication to the United States of America.

About 40 residents, including several local Boys Scouts, members of the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce (who sponsor the event each year) as well as members of the Arrowbear Lake Lions Club and veterans attended the event to honor our heroes.
