Driving across “the rim” on Veterans’ Day proved to be a magnificent sight as many people pulled into turnouts to take photos of the unusual heavy cloud cover that cloaked all of the valley in huge thick clouds. As they moved up the mountains people stopped to watch, in awe, and enjoy the very unusual site.
While we have all seen beautiful sunsets there was something really unique about this sunset due to the heavy layers of interesting clouds below the Rim. The clouds were so thick and interesting and combined with the late afternoon sunset it made for a magnificent miles-long scene that was enjoyed by people across the rim. Many people pulled out into available turnouts to take photos of the clouds which were so thick and yet looked like a huge white ocean filled with puffy unending “waves.” They also looked like giant blobs of whipped cream with the tops of pine trees sticking out of the areas far below “the rim.”
To put it mildly, it was a gorgeous sight!
