My heart and sympathy go to the family and friends of 31 year-old Sgt. 1st Class Michael A. Cathcart of Bay City, Michigan who lost his life Nov. 14 in Kunduz Province, Afghanistan, of wounds he received from small arms fire while on “dismounted” combat operations. This brave soldier was in the U.S. Army.
The sergeant was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), from Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
My thoughts are sent to this brave soldier’s family and friends whose lives with be changed forever. I know Americans share the family’s loss which, hopefully, will be some sort of solace to them on this terrible news.
We must remember that the members of the armed forces, whether Army, Navy or Air Force, are all volunteers and as such, the deaths of our young military members is all the more valiant. May God give the families of our fallen military members solace and comfort knowing that Americans mourn along with them.
