I was so sorry to hear about the recent death of longtime former San Bernardino County Supervisor Cal McElwain who died at age 85. He was a member of the board of supervisors for many years and he loved his job, the communities he served and he was an outstanding member of the board. I hope his family and friends take comfort in knowing that he stepped up to the political “plate” so to speak to do what he could to help make the county a better place for residents and visitors.
During his tenure on the board he served on many different boards (as the supervisors do) and he was, at one point, chairman of the San Bernardino Associated Governments (otherwise known as SANBAG) and he also served as chairman of the board. In addition to his years on the board of supervisors he was a longtime active member of the Masons and he served on many different boards.
His service will be held at 11 a.m. on February 27 at Life Bible Fellowship which is located at 2426 North Euclid Avenue in Upland.
While I didn’t know him well I attended many board meetings during the years he served the county. He always seemed to me to be a “straight-up” individual with a desire to serve the public.
That he did!
