The Mountain Arts Photographic Society (otherwise known as MAPS) and the Mountain Arts Network (otherwise known as MAN) and Jennifer Kellum, owner of Artisan’s in Running Springs, will announce the winners of the mountain-wide photography competition, “Celebrating Life in our San Bernardino Mountains” at a reception at the Mountain Arts Gallery in Lake Arrowhead Village on Saturday night, May 16 at 6 p.m.
The competition started in February of this year and it ended on May 15. All area photographers with images taken in the San Bernardino Mountains were invited to submit up to five images. The judging was conducted this past week by three local professional photographers who selected nine images out of the almost 200 that were submitted by over 40 participants.
The winning images will be unveiled at the reception and prizes and certificates will be presented to the winning photographers at the presentation ceremony. The nine images will be displayed in the window of the Mountain Arts Gallery for the last two weeks in May. The “Best Rock Formation” image will also be displayed at Artisan’s in Running Springs.
Everyone is invited to attend thee reception. Refreshments will be provided and many of the gallery artists will attend.
The MAPS group meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the MAN Community Art Center on the lower level of Lake Arrowhead Village. The art center is located below the California Thai Restaurant in the Village.
The meetings consist of educational programs by video or featured speakers and a monthly review of photographs submitted by members.
Refreshments are provided at the meetings and there is a monthly door prize drawing. The first meeting for new members or prospective members is free and then members pay $5 a month for dues. All high school students attend free of charge.
