This Friday, June 5 you will have the chance to honor and thank local veterans when our American heroes from the Loma Linda VA medical center come to the mountains. If you can wear red, white and blue (or even if you can’t) don’t miss this opportunity to thank these veterans.
At 8:15 a.m. be in Rimforest and cheer the vets and Patriot Guard riders as the Elks and Blue Star Moms join the caravan along Hwy. 18 past Rim High School, down to Hwy. 173 to Lake Arrowhead Village.
At 8:30 a.m. the program will continue as veterans are welcomed at the Village dock. They will enjoy a lakeside continental breakfast that is being hosted by the Rim of the World Blue Star Moms.
At 9 a .m. the vets will board American Legion and pontoon boats from the UCLA Conference Center to enjoy a three-hour fishing and tour excursion around the lake. At 12:30 the event continues at Tavern Bay as they disembark to be saluted by personnel at the UCLA Conference Center as well as B.P.O.E . Elks Lodge members.
At 12:45 a.m. the veterans will caravan from Tavern Bay to North Bay Road to Hwy.189 through Blue Jay and Aqua Fria to the Elks Lodge in Rimforest.
By 1 a.m. volunteers from the Elks Lodge will serve the veterans a patriotic luncheon and by 2:30 there will be a festive farewell as the veterans return to Loma Linda Veterans Medical Center.
This is the third annual community salute and it is being made possible by a generous grant from the Elks National Foundation.
Come on out to the “parade route” and cheer on these great veterans! They deserve it don’t forget that many of our older veterans were drafted and as we know, for the past few decades our military are volunteers. We owe all of them so much respect!
