Green Valley Lake Aquathon August 15

flipflopsRemember hearing about when Paul Revere  rode through the town yelling, “The British are Coming! The British are Coming?” He was right, of course. Well, today the call is going out with a slightly different twist! “The Aquathon is Coming! The Aquathon is Coming!” and it is…it’s coming to Green Valley Lake on August 15.

Never heard of an Aquathon? Well, you will. This great event, scheduled for Saturday, August 15  will be a fun-filled day for the athletes involved as well as for all the spectators who will crowd around beautiful Green Valley Lake to watch all the fun.

The Aquathon is set to begin at 9 a.m. and there are several age categories. The day will include a 600 yard swim in the lake and a 5K run. This is expected to be a fabulously fun event that will draw a lot of people up to the (usually quiet) community that is located at the top of Green Valley Lake Road. Come on up and join in the fun. You’ll love Green Valley Lake. It’s located off Hwy. 18 (near the community of Arrowbear Lake)  and it’s a beautiful windy drive up, up, up to Green Valley Lakethe lake and the surrounding community.

Age groups will include several different divisions and men and women will compete in separate divisions. The age groups will include: 12-15; 16-17; 18-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 5-54; 55-50; 60-64; 65-70; and 70+.

A relay will also be held and the top three winners from each age group will compete. There will be two groups, men’s and women’s and the other will be parents and kids (from ages 12-17). A 600 yard swim and 5K run will also be in the relay division.

The charge to participate for kids aged 12-17 is $40 and all parents will need to sign a release form and confirm that their child or children can swim for half a mile. There will be a special Kids Fun Run for children 6-11 years old. This event will include a 500 yard run and it will be held at the conclusion of the aquathon.

The registration fee before April 30 is $45 but club members need to know that club discounts may not be combined with this offer.

Participants who register from May 1 to June 30 will pay $60 which will be a savings of $15. The standard early registration fee, before the July 1 cutoff date is $70. With a minimum of five members a club discount of $10 will be available.

The Race Day registration fee will be $75 but with a minimum of five members a club discount of $10 will be available.

If you’re thinking of spending the night you’ll be in luck because there’s a bed and breakfast, you can rent a cabin or there’s a beautiful U.S. Forest Service campground in the community. There truly is something for everyone so make plans to come and enjoy this exciting event and the ambiance of this very special small community located at the highest elevation of any of the other fulltime  inhabited communities in the local mountains.
