Each year the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors a fun event entitled Mountain Top Days. It’s great fun for local residents, “part-timers” and visitors so that just about means EVERYONE.
This year’s event will include the annual Mountain Top Days parade that has become a such a great event thoughuto the years. The parade will be held on Hilltop Blvd. on August 7. Hot on the heels of last year’s huge parade (thanks to parade chairman Jennifer Kellum) we’re hoping to have another great parade hit on our hands. Jennifer certainly gave all of us on the committee some great ideas and we intend to follow up on a lot of them this year and add new entries and fun! We are very grateful to this year’s parade chairman, Jay Houck, for stepping up to be this year’s chairman. Because the chamber of commerce has to pay for CHP officers and Caltrans for permits for the parade we need to ask all parade entrants to pay a $10 fee. Last year’s parade was enormous compared to the past few years so the chamber board members are hoping for another big, huge fun event.
The parade theme this year will be “Mountain Mentors” so local teachers, doctors, firefighters, police officers, coaches and people who volunteer with children will be honored and thanked for their community service. All local organizations, children, adults, businesses are welcome to be part of this annual event that has become a “showcase” for our local Running Springs, Arrowbear Lake and Green Valley Lake communities. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. but the parade line-up will be held from 5:50 to 6 p.m. It is very important for all parade participants to be present for the “line-up” so they know where they’ll be in the parade. The parade committee will include Jay Houck, Laurie Everett, Anna Wilson, Danny Wagner, Dan Begley and me.
Following the parade on Friday night, a street dance will be held and the Tim Grossman Band will provide the music so come on over and enjoy the music, the camaraderie, the great food being cooked by “Wild and Twisted” (the same people that were there last year!). This fun event will be held at Cut Above Salon on Hilltop Blvd. and the fun will be held on the property. The band and food vendors will be there beginning at 5:30 p.m. so come on out and bring your dancin’ shoes and be prepared for some fun, great food and dancin’ in the street!
The next day children’s games will be held, including the always hilarious raw egg toss (adults are more than welcome, too), the children’s watermelon eating contest (no hands allowed), water balloon toss and other games that vendors will have on hand. These events will be held at the site where the weekly Farmer’s Market is held by First Mountain Bank.
Mountain Top Days has been a “summer” staple in the Running Springs community for several years and it just keep going so come on out and enjoy the day. They’ll be lots to do, lots to see and lots of fun to be had!
