Lake Fire and Sterling Fire Updates-June 26, 8 a.m.

Just wanted to let you know that the Sterling Fire that started near Waterman Canyon in San Bernardino last night is 50 percent contained and that about 100 acres have burned. No structures have been damaged or destroyed and no road closures are in place. The U.S. Forest Service  is leading the unified command firefighting effort along with San Bernardino City Fire Department and Cal Fire.

The lake Fire that has been burning for the past many days is now 19 percent contained. Thusfar it has burned 29,813 acres in the San Bernardino Mountains. Mandatory evacuations remain in place for the communities of Burns Canyon and rimrock. A voluntary evacuation is still in place for Pioneertown. The community of Lake Williams is under an alert for possible evacuation. Lake Erwin and Lake Baldwin communities were also added to the alert.

California Team Incident command Team 5 (Minton) assumed command of the fire at 6 a.m. today (Friday, June 26). The second camp is in place at Big Bear Mountain ski resort in Big Bear.

Hwy. 38 from Angeles Oaks to Lake Williams, Jenks Lake Road and Maple Lane in Big Bear Lake remain closed.
