The last of this year’s Arrowhead Arts Association-sponsored concerts will be held at the beautiful Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Arrowhead at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 20.

This annual “end of the summer” event will feature the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra and having been to many of these events through the years if you love classical music you will be in heaven. This year’s concert will include Edward Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnol which will feature the talented violinist Will Hagen. The event will also feature De Ceballos’ Suite de Lara that will spotlight tenor Gustavo Hernandez Garcia. Come and enjoy and rest your spirit and your heart. You will love this concert and, after all, it is really right in your back yard, so to speak.

Cello carrying cases were lined up along the window, almost resembling a person's body, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church during the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra's performance last year.

Each year when this event takes place the pews are filled at this magnificent church so if you plan to attend get there early. Parking is always a “tad” difficult if you arrive late or just before the performance so plan ahead and be there early. You can always sit and unwind in the church’s beautiful, calming garden that borders the church.

Every year this thrilling concert also features members of the All Mountain Strings Ensemble (which is funded by the Arrowhead Arts Association). Under the direction of Sharon Rizzo and Linda Wilson this special concert will feature members of the local mountains strings ensemble which, through hours and hours of practice, has truly become a remarkable group of talented musicians. Each time I see them perform at an event I am always amazed at the level of their musical skills. If you closed your eyes and just listened to the music you would never guess that the musicians are students, not paid musical professionals. Come! Enjoy! Close your eyes and let yourself simply listen. These students, and the organization that supports them, are truly remarkable!

The magnificent church is a perfect venue for the symphony orchestra as the musicians are nestled around the front of the church altar. It is a breathtaking site with its soaring cross, the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows and the beautiful, tranquil trees and flowers outside. If your spirit needs a revival be sure to attend this free concert and for about 90 minutes let the music and the site carry off your concerns. You will leave this event feeling blessed and grateful. Trust me, you will be enthralled!

Tickets for this special event are $25 for general admission and $40 for the preferred seating section. Because one of the major projects that this longtime mountain organization has endorsed and continues to endorse is that students who are accompanied by a parent are free. This “gift” to children and their parents is another gift, so to speak, because as part of this organization’s outreach they encourage children to attend the event with the hope that it will foster in them a true appreciation and love of the musical arts.

Tickets are available at the Lake Arrowhead Chamber of Commerce office w in Blue Jay Village. For telephone reservations call (909) 337-0284.
