“Alice in Wonderland” Tea/Mixer “One for the Books! Literally!

Kevin and Patrick at Alice in Wonderland eventA perfectly delightful “Alice in Wonderland” themed Running Springs Chamber Meet and Greet was held at “Forwarding Wishes” on Monday evening. The March Hare was even there and children and adults all seemed to have a perfectly lovely time.

With great decorations and delightful Alice surprises this event was a huge success for everyone who attended. Small children especially loved it all because they knew, probably by heart, the story that the fun event was based upon.

The owners of Forwarding Wishes and Mr. P’s shop on Hilltop Blvd. are quite unbelievably creative and talented and between the hats or masks that were worn (of course), the table decorations and all the Alice in Wonderland “fun” it was a wonderful, happy, different, creative, fabulous event. The children who were there loved it and so did the “big people” who were there. As you can see from the photo on the left Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Somes joined “Mr. P’s owner(and husband of the tea party event) Patrick .

Holding their very creative masks in front of their faces, do you think these darlings had fun at the Mad Hatter Tea? They had a ball!!!!!

This was a “chamber of commerce” mixer and it simply couldn’t have been more delightful. If you haven’t scoped out both of these great businesses you don’t know what you’re missing. Forwarding Wishes is located on the bottom level of the building that houses “Mr.P’s.” These fun shops have furniture, they have antiques, they have creativity, they have fabulous and fun things on the main level and on the lower level too. Go by, say hello and look around. You’ll enjoy every single second, just like Alice and the Rabbit did last Friday evening.

The Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce members and other friends had a fabulous time at the Alice in Wonderland tea. What great ideas these owners have!

All the chamber member and all the children hopped all the way home, I’m sure. What a delightful event and so clever to have it on a theme from such a well-known children’s story. If you missed it go by and say “hello” and see what they are planning next time!

This was a wonderful, creative event and if you missed it you need to kick yourself and then jump back into the rabbit hole.

Keep up with these owners…..their shops (Forwarding Wishes and Mr.P’s) because they’re fabulous!

A Great Old Story About the Formation of the Running Springs Chamber: 1947

Running Springs Chamber logoHave you ever given any thought to the fact that the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce (that sponsors so many local events) hasn’t always been here? Well, as a longtime chamber member and director I’d never given it any thought either but I came across an interesting story about the formation of this civic-active group of dedicated volunteers. As I was, you’ll be surprised by how long a chamber has been active in our small community.

“On Armistice Day in 1947 a meeting was held by some of the citizens of Running Springs, at the Pine Cone Inn, to discuss the possibility of forming a chamber of commerce. (I believe the Pine Cone Inn was where the Rainbow View Lodge was located).

Tentative plans were made to organize the chamber in the near future, with the idea of trying to get a one-hundred percent membership in the village.

One of the main problems discussed was the lack of correct weather information given to the people in the valley. It was agreed that a chamber, in cooperation with the other chambers in the mountains, could do a great deal toward rectifying this condition.

Temporary officers elected to organize the chamber were Cy Hoag, Les Mee, John Soos, Walter Holmes and William Mueller. It was felt that permanent officers should be elected by members after the Chamber is organized.

it was decided that another meeting should be held in the near future so that a speaker from the County Chamber of Commerce could inform all of the people in running Springs of the benefits derived from such an organization. This is a question of importance to all in the community. The date of the next meeting will be made public, as soon as the arrangements can be made for a speaker.”

JOAN:  This was a story from 1947. Of course, our Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce is still going strong after all these decades. As a member of the board of directors we need help, suggestions and more help. As it has always been there aren’t very many people who are actively involved so if you’re interested please call the chamber office at (909) 867-2411 and leave a message or log onto: http://www.info@runningspringschamber.com. As we are a small chamber someone will get back to you as soon as possible. As this story, written so long ago, didn’t mention Arrowbear or Green Valley Lake I am presuming that those communities were not included, at that time, in the overall chamber of commerce.

Was this you at the 1965 Rim High Graduation? Don’t miss the boat come to the October 2015 Reunion Events.

Okay all you baby-boomers……”You’ll be “Dancin’ in the Street” at the “Bus Stop” unless she or he has to “Get ‘Outta This Place” or “My Girl” gets lost  with “Bonnie and Clyde” or “The Animals” have found her and said “We Gotta’ get Outta’ this Place” because “She’s Not there” because The Zombies or “The Beatles  got her or she’s “Runaway.” Perhaps she’s tired because she’s been “Dancin’ in the Street” too long.
If you recognize all these great long-ago hit songs you’re ready for the 50th Rim of the World Class of 1965 high school reunion. Yep, it’s been 50 years since those crazy kids  graduated way back in 1965.

The fun will be held on October 23, 24 and 25. Friday evening there will be a meet and greet at the Tudor House in Lake Arrowhead. (This is where you really have to use your imagination and remember that great girlfriend or boyfriend who so many years later looks (and is) a lot older. Saturday morning guests will go to the Mountain History Museum for a great presentation and tour. (This is going to be another stroll down memory lane so plan to attend.) The Saturday evening banquet will be held at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and the Sunday morning brunch will be at the beautiful Tudor House.

This reunion is a “biggie”…..50 years is a long time so enjoy, have fun, forget that you all have gray hair and don’t look the same. GVL Eagle’s Nest Restaurant Hosting “Quarter to Three” Music Trio May 20

Beautiful GVL4Most people have never spent any time in an eagle’s nest …and I’m certainly one of them. However, that being said, I love going to the Eagle’s Nest in Green Valley Lake and you will too if you go there on Saturday, May 20 at 6 p.m. when the locally talented group of singers, “Quarter to Three,” performs at 6 p.m. Come up and enjoy the great music (with lyrics you can understand) and while you’re there grab a bite to eat.

To get to Green Valley Lake from Running Springs drive along Hwy. 18 (toward Big Bear), pass through Arrowbear Lake and turn left at the bridge (it’s not over troubled water) and drive up Green Valley Lake Road along this beautiful scenic windy road to get to the top. The Eagle’s Nest is located next to the GVL store so you can’t miss it. If you’re there you can breathe the fresh air, admire the lake, enjoy the music and great food. Another plus: don’t forget to breathe deeply. Your lungs and brain will thank you!

Trust me, you’ll love it!

Mountain Sunrise Rotary’s Upcoming Garage Sale May 22-23

rummage.sale.02Let it not be said that local Mountain Sunrise Rotary members in Lake Arrowhead aren’t progressive….because, as we know, they are!

The members are hosting their first-ever garage sale on May 22 and 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 28575 Manitoba Drive in Lake Arrowhead., The site is located near Church of the Woods.

How wonderful to hear that a generous donor gave this local Rotary group hundreds of items including microwaves, lamps, purses, wallets, belts, costume jewelry, bedspreads, comforters, rugs, heaters, pillows, sheet sets, toys and so much more there’s not enough room to type all the fabulous goods.

Knowing Rotary and their commitment to “our “Rim of the World communities they want to share their good fortune with everyone who attends by keeping the prices low. In fact, they have so many different items they will be using not one, but three, driveways. In case you’re wondering, about 99 percent of the items are brand new so this “garage sale” is going to be fabulous, fun and a real “shot in the arm” for Rotary as well as all the people who gobble up all the fabulous items.

Sounds like a real Win-Win event for everyone involved: for Rotary and all the people who attend and snatch up all the great items.

Remember, the dates are May 22 and 23, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 28575 Manitoba Drive in Lake Arrowhead.

This is definitely one of those events that the saying “be there or be square” might apply only an even better one is “be there or be sorry!”
